Cresyl Echt Violet solution is designed to show selective staining of Nissl granules. Neurons contain Nissl substance, composed primarily of rough endoplasmic reticulum; the amount, form, and distribution of Nissl substance will vary in different types of neurons. Nissl substance is very basophilic. Due to the high amount of RNA content present in the rough endoplasmic reticulum, Nissl substance will be very sharply stained with basic aniline dyes. By varying the pH and the degree of differentiation during staining, both Nissl substance and nuclei or only Nissl substance may be demonstrated. Nissl granules are purple, nuclei of neuroglia and endothelial cells are slightly bluer than Nissl granules
Our kit is designed for staining myelin/myelinated axons and Nissil substance on formalin fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue as well as frozen tissue. Our kit is used for identifying the basic neuronal structure in brain or spinal cord sections, and contains a Cresyl Echt Violet counterstain. Using our protocol and the modified formulation, myelinated tissue can be stained in as little as 30 minutes.
The Acid Fast Bacteria (AFB) Stain Kit is intended for use in the histological visualization of Acid Fast Bacteria and Tubercle Bacilli. This kit is a rapid 15-minute procedure. The lipoid capsule of the acid-fast organism takes up carbol fuchsin and resists decolorization.

The positive control slides are intended to be used to verify histological techniques and reagent reactivity, and are not intended to be used for any quantitative purpose.
Tissues are formaldehyde-fixed, paraffin-embedded, heat dried, and cut at 5 microns unless otherwise specified. Standard tissue placement is mid-range of slide.
